Hard to believe we are already seven weeks into the school year and parent-teacher conferences begin this week! This is an important time as much for your children, as it is for you as parents. It allows our staff to fill you in, and at some grade levels for the students to lead their own conference. You should get a sense of where they are with relationship to their learning and how the relationship is working with their teacher. Please come prepared to listen first and then ask questions on how you can be of assistance to your child. Encourage them to take responsibility for their learning…ask questions, how it is going, what they are learning…probe to get them to process it with you. We are at a time where we are really encouraging children to remember that making mistakes is a big part of the learning process!
Each and every day our school begins with the pledge…it sets the tone of the morning with our solid routine followed by our morning announcement which really boils down to making good choices each and every day! With that said, I am reminded of how important daily and nightly routines are!
At the beginning of the year we have a lot of lunches, water bottles or homework delivered to school after we have already begun our day. I was amazed at the sheer quantity but it has slowly decreased with time. What hasn’t, is the number of students who are tardy each day. I can’t stress enough how important it is for students to arrive on time which allows them to catch up with friends and gradually work themselves into their day. Imagine how difficult it would be if at work you arrived a minute or two prior to a big presentation. Arriving early puts you in the moment and prepares you for a more comfortable start…so make that lunch the night before, put a sticky note on the door leading out to remind you what you need to bring and I am certain it will make for a much smoother start to a beautiful day or not….the choice is ours (:
Kinders leave school 10 minutes earlier than all other grades and we want to get them loaded into their vehicles quickly as to help with dismissal of first grade through eighth graders. As a reminder, dismissal for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday is 2:40 and Wednesday is 1:40. The first bell in the morning rings at 7:35 with the pledge of allegiance beginning at 7:40.
